Human Rights Due Diligence Policy - The SIS Kata
Announcement: Human Rights Due Diligence Policy – The SIS Kata Resort
The SIS Kata Resort recognizes that the hospitality and tourism industry directly impacts various stakeholders, including employees, guests, partners, surrounding communities, and the environment. We are strongly committed to conducting our business responsibly by adopting the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) as our operational framework. This encompasses three main pillars: the State’s duty to protect, the Corporate responsibility to respect human rights, and Access to remedy.
Our policy places a special emphasis on three core areas:
1. Gender Equality The resort is dedicated to creating a work environment completely free from discrimination and harassment.
-
Non-Discrimination & Equal Pay: We strictly prohibit discrimination based on gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation in recruitment, compensation, and promotion. We provide equal pay for work of equal value regardless of gender.
-
Advancement & Protection: We offer equal opportunities for career advancement and training to all genders. The resort enforces strict measures against sexual harassment with clear disciplinary actions, and supports parental rights to balance work and family life.
-
Guest Equality: We ensure all guests, regardless of gender or identity, are welcomed and served equally without discrimination.
2. Environment & Ecosystem Recognizing our location in Phuket’s highly sensitive coastal ecosystem, we have established strict environmental guidelines.
-
Resource & Waste Management: We efficiently manage water and energy consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and actively minimize waste by promoting recycling and reducing single-use plastics.
-
Coastal Protection: We avoid activities that negatively impact coral reefs, beaches, and local water sources, while supporting community-led conservation efforts.
-
Awareness & Compliance: We conduct environmental impact assessments before new developments, strictly comply with environmental laws, and raise eco-awareness among our staff and guests.
3. Sustainable Procurement We extend our commitment to human rights and the environment throughout our supply chain.
-
Supplier Code of Conduct: We require suppliers to respect human rights, including zero tolerance for child and forced labor, alongside providing fair wages, fair working hours, and safe working conditions.
-
Responsible & Local Sourcing: We prioritize local suppliers in Phuket and nearby areas to support the local economy and reduce transportation impacts.
-
Eco-friendly Products: We actively purchase biodegradable packaging and sustainable products (such as sustainably sourced seafood), and regularly audit key suppliers to ensure compliance.
Scope of Application This policy applies comprehensively to all directors, management, and employees (full-time, temporary, and seasonal), as well as business partners, contractors, and suppliers. It also extends to treating guests and the local community of Karon, Phuket, with the utmost respect for human dignity.
Due Diligence, Grievance, and Remediation
-
HRDD Process: The resort continuously implements a 4-step Human Rights Due Diligence process (Identify & Assess, Prevent & Mitigate, Track, and Communicate) at least once a year or upon significant operational changes.
-
Grievance Channels: We provide diverse, confidential grievance channels (e.g., feedback boxes, emails, hotlines) with a strict non-retaliation policy to protect whistleblowers.
-
Remediation: If the resort is found to have caused or contributed to adverse human rights impacts, appropriate remediation will be provided promptly and fairly.
Responsibility & Review Roles are clearly delegated from the Top Management down to all employees to ensure effective implementation. This policy is reviewed at least annually, or when significant changes in laws, international standards, or business contexts occur, to ensure it remains aligned with the UNGPs.
